IMPACT Strategies, Inc. has started construction on Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s new Tedrick Welcome Center. The welcome center is being funded by the SIU Foundation through a combination of reserves, fundraising and borrowing. No state funds are being used to build the Tedrick Welcome Center, which is the first major construction project on campus in over 12 years.
The new 44,000-square-foot, two-story, state-of-the-art building will introduce prospective Saluki students to campus, and it will also serve as a hub for donor visits, alumni activities and campus and community events. The opportunities and experiences provided by this facility will be transformative for the university for decades into the future.
The Tedrick Welcome Center will include a visitor center capable of hosting conferences, lectures, seminars and catered events for up to 300 people, and the philanthropy center, which will be the new home of the SIU Foundation. With energy conservation at the forefront, geothermal heating and cooling will be included along with other energy saving applications.
The team of construction professionals at IMPACT work closely with the design team at Hafer Design during a 9-month pre-construction period to ensure effective constructability of a complicated design.
IMPACT Strategies, the SIU Foundation, and SIU dignitaries celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony on October 11, 2024, during SIU Homecoming weekend.
“As an alumni and supporter of SIUC for many years, it is very gratifying to be involved with this very meaningful project for the entire campus community. Our extensive experience in office and education spaces makes IMPACT Strategies the ideal partner for the Foundation.” said Mark Hinrichs, President at IMPACT Strategies.
IMPACT is planning for completion May 2026.
